Hi Janet, this is a great encouragement to look differently at AcWriMo, which - while a great initiative in theory - I think often adds considerable pressure for academic writers at a difficult time of year. Love the idea of taking this approach to it!

This AcWriMo I'm committed to publishing 30 tiny pieces of writing, to air out some ideas that have been in the margins of notebooks for way too long. I want to set them off into the wild, and see where I get to!

Agreed, setting a word number goal seems to mechanistic and reinforces the idea that writing is not fun so we have to force ourselves to tackle it. I'd rather think of AcWriMo as a time to hit refresh.

Excellent AcWriMo project! What are your topics? Will you post them to Substack or publish more formally? I just did a webinar about "Curating Your Own Work," suggesting that people explore what you are doing - look at your manuscripts, notes, the ideas that got away, and rethink them for new publications (or posts,) If you have something to share with AcWriMo readers, please message me and I can include a link or reference in a future newsletter.

Thanks, that's super kind! I will get a little further down the track and then will gratefully take you up on your offer :)
